Phoenix has refurbished bikes for sale.
Phoenix Bikes opened its doors in March 2007 as a nonprofit organization in Arlington, Va. A dedicated group of citizens and cyclists grew the shop from the ashes of Community Spokes, a community bike shop sponsored by the Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. Based in a small brick building in Barcroft Park, Phoenix Bikes staff and volunteers operate youth development programs for middle and high school students, host workshops and shop nights for anyone interested in bicycles in the community, and coordinate community events. (via Phoenix Bikes)
Phoenix staff accepting a new donation
If you’ve not visited them before, this season is a great one to get to know them and get biking.
Local families love Phoenix Bikes.
“Almost every season, our daughter grows out of a bike. She donates it to Phoenix, they take her old bike and pretty it up for another young rider. It’s a great way for kids to experience the cycle of giving.” (Arlington Parent)
Where Phoenix Bikes will be this weekend:
5/21/11- Nauck Neighborhood Day at Drew Model Elementary from 12pm-4pm. We leave at 11:30am.
5/22/11- Taste Of Arlington from 8:30am-4pm or so. If you can make it early, come out check it out! They’ll be raffling off a custom Schwinn Paramount mountain bike.
5/23/11- Kenmore Middle School ride with Bike Arlington from 3pm-5pm
Visit them on Facebook to keep up to date on their very active community opportunities.

- A concrete mixer from Vulcan Materials
- A gas operations vehicle from Washington Gas
- Arlington Transit’s Art on the ART Bus
- And a motorcycle and police cruiser from the Arlington Police Department
* Depending on availability, they may also have an ambulance and ladder truck, as well as other large construction vehicles.
