Mirandy and the Brother Wind Joins the Atlas Performing Arts Center For INTERSECTIONS: A New America Arts Festival (2.26.11)

Last month we talked about Mirandy and Brother Wind. Adventure Theatre, African Continuum Theatre Company are working toegther and hosting a special Mirandy event at the New America Arts Festival on February 26th. Below is a schedule of activities you and your family can take part in.

2:30pm: FREE –  Celebrate Mirandy AND BROTHER WIND with a Cakewalk Demonstration, Class, Mural Creation and for-fun Dance Competition

Join them for a very special community event for children and families that celebrates the opening of the new children’s musical Mirandy and Brother Wind, directed by Jennifer Nelson, adapted by Michael J. Bobbitt, and based on the award-winning book by Patricia McKissack. Create a mural under the direction of the books’ noted illustrator, Jerry Pinkney, and receive dance instruction from the Dance Institute of Washington. Learn the “cake walk” dance! All cake-walkers will receive a cupcake. After the event, join them in the Sprenger Theater for the Atlas opening of Mirandy and Brother.

4:00pmAdventure Theatre/African Continuum Theatre Company, Mirandy and Brother Wind, Sprenger Theatre; Join young Mirandy on her quest to win a cakewalk contest by capturing the perfect partner—Brother Wind. Purchase tickets online at intersectionsdc.org.

5:00pm: FREE – Mirandy Book Signing, Kogod Lobby; Meet Mirandy and Brother Wind author Patricia McKissack and illustrator Jerry Pinkney.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.

The Festival will be at the Atlas Performing Arts Center, 1333 H Street NE, Washington, DC 20002. The Atlas Performing Arts Center highly recommends using public transportation.
