Owners of The Sugar Cube, Alyssa & Kim have added a sweet new list of classes for adults and children beginning this weekend and running through the Spring. The Sugar Cube is located in Old Town Alexandria.
Candymonium: Truffle Making
When: Saturday, January 29th
Who: Kids ages 8-12 years.
Description: In this hands-on class, kids will learn how to create decadent chocolate truffles, including making ganache and rolling and dipping centers. Each child will leave with a recipe for future chocolate-making, an apron, and a personalized box of their own creations.
Candymonium: Cake Pops for Your Valentine
When: Saturday, February 5th
Who: Ages 7-12 years
Description: In this hands-on class, kids will learn how to create cake pops, including making the cake pop base, coloring chocolate, and rolling and decorating Valentine-themed cake shapes. Kids will packaged their creations just like the pros with cello and ribbon. Kitchen concepts such as cleanliness, etiquette, and recipe preparation are also incorporated.
Candymonium: Chocolate Dippers
When: Saturday, February 26th
Who: Kids ages 4-7 years.
Description: Kids dip a variety of treats like cookies and pretzels. They will decorate them with sprinkles and other fun toppings. They will then enjoy packaging them up just like the pros do with cello, personalized stickers, and ribbon.
Candymonium: Mini Candy Topiaries
When: Saturday, March 19th
Who: Kids ages 6-9 years.
Description: In this hands-on class, kids will work with candies and chocolate to create their own candy topiary.
Candymonim: Spring Cookie Bake and Decorate
When: Saturday, April 2nd
Who: Kids ages 5-9 years.
Description: In this hands-on class kids will make a basic cookie recipe. They will then create and decorate their own spring shapes using icing, candies, and chocolate.They will then package them up with cello and personalized stickers. Kitchen concepts such as cleanliness, etiquette, and recipe preparation are also incorporated.
Exploring Chocolate and Percentages
When: Tuesday, February 22nd
Description: Participants will learn about the history of chocolate, where it comes from and how it is made while partaking in a classic tasting of 3 darks, one milk, and one white chocolate. Conversation will then focus on and explore the popular term “percentage” – what it means, how it is determined. Three additional “percentage” chocolates will be tasted.
Truffle Making with Chocolaterie Wanders (hands-on)
When:Tuesday, March 1st
Description: Master Chocolatiers Melanie & Wilhelm Wanders will lead participants in a two-hour guided chocolate tasting and hands-on truffle making class. Participants will learn about the history of chocolate, how it is made, and see a demonstration of chocolate tempering. The class will get hands-on by rolling and finishing truffles which they will be able to take home. This class includes the tasting of 3 different chocolates and 3 finished confections. Participants will also bring home a 4-pc box of the Wanders own confections and an informational handout with recipes.
Wine and Chocolate Dessert Pairing
When: Thursday, March 24th
Description: Join us for a course pairing wine with chocolate-based desserts. You’ll come away with all you need to go from ingredient to course pairing to pull off an effortless get-together using dessert recipes that you’ll sample. Participants will sample five chocolates and five desserts with a wine pairing for each dessert. Jane Cahill of The Winery will be working with The Sugar Cube on this class.
