Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision and many accomplishments are the reason that communities like Arlington have worked to implement change.
Sponsored by Arlington Public Schools & Arlington County Department of Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources, the MLK contest is open to Arlington Elementary, Middle and High School students who are invited to submit works in one of the three contest categories. Writing, Poetry and Visual.
•Dr. Martin Luther King’s vision was that his children, and others,
would not be judged by the color of their skin.
• Arlington County’s vision states that, “Arlington will be a diverse and
inclusive world-class urban community with secure, attractive residen-
tial and commercial neighborhoods where people unite to form a
caring, learning, participating, sustainable community in which each
person is important.”
Describe in writing or through visual art: How you think that the
Arlington community is fulfilling Dr. King’s vision and dream?
Awards will be given in four grade levels:
Kindergarten – 2 grade
3 grade – 5 grade
6 grade – 8 grade
9 grade – 12 grade
Each level listed above will have two winners in each category:
All contest prizes will be awarded at the 42 Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tribute on Sun, Jan. 16, 2011. Recognition will be given to the second and third place winners in each category.
