Nominations are Now Being Accepted for the Bill Thomas Park Service Volunteer Award
William “Bill” Thomas served the Arlington County parks community for more than two decades. He became a member of Friends of Arlington Parks when the organization was established more than twenty years ago and was appointed to the Park and Recreation Commission in 1995. He had a personal love of birding, and the acquisition of parkland was one of his priorities.
The highest honor in Arlington County parks and recreation, the Bill Thomas Park Service Volunteer Award recognizes an individual or group for their passionate dedication and support for Arlington County’s dynamic park and recreation programs, natural resources and public open spaces.
Help recognize the best. Nominations will be accepted until February 25, 2011. To nominate someone go to: http://www.arlingtonva.us/prcr and search for “Bill Thomas”.
If you’d like to start volunteering, you can stop by Gulf Branch and Long Branch Nature Centers for their invasive pulls the 2nd and 3rd Sundays of each month (see page 3 for more details). Young adults, 14 and up are also encouraged to volunteer at the nature centers. Tasks range from helping out with animal care, working with native plants, and maintaining the park.
