Friday, September 17th:

ROSSLYN OUTDOOR FILM FESTIVAL – Home Alone
Screening of “Home Alone”. Bring blankets and low chairs, Gateway Park, Lee Highway and North Lynn Street, Arlington. FREE. Begins at dusk.

Saturday, September 18th:

KIDS PIRATE DAY PROGRAM (Alexandria, VA)
Pick up a treasure map from the Potomac River Boat Co. or Historic Alexandria History Center and Museum Store and collect “treasures” from businesses in Old Town. Finish at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum and Apothecary Museum, with stories and a raffle. Designed for age 8 and younger, begins at 1pm.

MUSEUM TEDDY BEAR PICNIC @ (Alexandria, VA)
Learn about the teddy bear history, bring a stuffed toy and play games; includes lunch. For ages 7-11. Begins at 1pm.
Lee-Fendall House Museum. $10, reservations required; parents, free.

Author Audrey Vernick and illustrator Daniel Jennewein read their new book, Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten?, which tackles first day of school jitters in a fun and reassuring way.

Colonial Days

Colonial Market and Fair @ Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens (Mount Vernon, VA)
America’s finest craftspeople and plenty of family fun. Colonial-attired artisans demonstrate 18th-century crafts and sell traditional wares such as baskets, woodcarvings, tin and ironwork, leatherworkings, weavings, paper-cuttings, furniture, and much more. The event also features lively 18th-century entertainment including music, fire-eating, sword-swallowing, puppet and magic shows, rat-catchers and gypsies, plus hearty specialty food for sale onsite.
