We’re BACK!
We took the holiday week/weekend off, now recovered and ready to share all the places you should be checking out this weekend.

SATURDAY, July 11th

French Festival @ Hillwood Estate, Museum, and Gardens (DC)

Families are invited to travel back 300 years to a time when ladies curtsied, men bowed, and courtships came alive in outdoor garden settings. Entertainment includes the lively theatrics presented by New York Baroque Dance Company and Opera Lafayette, gallery talks about French decorative arts and Sevres imperial porcelain, “Kings, Queens & Soup Tureens” audio tour, garden talks in the French Parterre, and traditional games, such as jacks and a hoop-tossing game called The Three Graces.

Artful Animals Mask Making @ National Museum of African Art (DC)
Artist and educator Karen Brown leads kids in a mask-making workshop inspired by the Artful Animals exhibition.

Joseph Nourse’s Birthday Party with Ice Cream @ Dumbarton House (DC)
Celebrate the birthday of the first resident of Dumbarton House with an interactive museum tour and scavenger hunt, Federal-era games, ice cream making (by hand!), and a sampling and comparing of the homemade ice cream with manufactured ice creams of today.

Kids Bowl Free @ AMF (Alexandria, VA)
A select number of metro DC bowling halls, including AMF Alexandria, offer kids two free games every day throughout the summer, redeemable by email coupons. Parents can sign their children up through the website and receive coupons for each child every week. A Family Pass is also available for $23.95 and allows up to four adults to go bowling with the kids.

Billy Jonas @ Jammin’ Java (Vienna, VA)
Jonas’ original pieces are played on fanciful “industrial re-percussion” instruments made from found objects. He sings in a clear tenor voice; his guitar work is adventurous, alternately percussive, and lyrical.

Farmers, Warriors, Builders: Hidden Life of Ants @ National Museum of Natural History (DC)
Visitors get a look at life from an ant’s point of view with large-format photographs of ants going about their daily business, a cast of an underground ant city, and a live ant colony.

Reston Festival @ Reston Town Center (Reston)
Reston celebrates its 45th birthday with two days of live music, children’s games and activities, magicians, balloons, arts and crafts, and food.
