National Day of Sweden Celebration @ Swedish Embassy (DC)

Families can celebrate the National Day of Sweden with activities, live music, hosts and hostesses in traditional folk costumes, dancing around the maypole, quizzes, and traditional Swedish delicacies in Café Grön.

Artomatic @ Navy Yard (DC)

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Artomatic is a month-long multimedia arts event featuring nine floors of visual and installation art, theater, dance, and comedy, three music stages, street performances such as fire dancing and drum troupes, and a film screening theater. Workshops and seminars are held all month long, as well as special events (such as an exhibit of the Washington Post’s Peeps diorama finalists), and hands-on activities for children.

Start with the Arts Family Festival @ Smithsonian American Art Museum (DC)

The American Art Museum and VSA arts present Start with the Arts Family Festival, a two day celebration of the exhibition Jean Shin: Common Threads, learn how to make musical instruments from found objects and decorate environmentally friendly canvas bags (while supplies last).

The Kennedy’s present The Snacks! @ Jammin’ Java (Vienna, VA)

The Snacks, in the guise of ringleaders Pete and Maura Kennedy, have been entertaining kids for over ten years. All of their songs involve the audience as singers, dancers, and sometimes spontaneous songwriters, and the show always ends with a runaway conga line snaking around the venue.

Young Artists Exhibition: Community Visions @ The Phillips Collection (DC)

After visiting four museums, DC public school students (Wards 5 and 8, pre-kindergarten to 6th grade) created photographs, collaborative storytelling collages, and dynamic narratives about their communities. Works range from beautifully abstracted images of playground equipment to glimpses of everyday life in Anacostia.

SUNDAY, June 7th

My Kissing Hands @ Kinder Haus Toys (Arlington)

Jennifer Stackpole is in the store to create custom ceramic pieces which feature the impression of a child’s hand or foot. Each is carefully hand-finished to become a beautiful keepsake.
